Harold Curnalia


NORWICH – Harold W. Curnalia, 93, a lifelong resident of Norwich, passed away on Jan. 3, 2013 at the New York State Veterans’ Home in Oxford.
Harold was the son of William J. and Elnora (Cook) Curnalia. He was born and raised in the Norwich area and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the European Theater of Operations with the 8th Air Force at Bushy Park, England with General Eisenhower, Quartermaster Section.
While stationed in England, Harold met and married his English war bride, Brenda E. (Debus) Curnalia. They were married on Oct. 2, 1943 at St. Michael’s Church in Southfields, London, England. After the war, Harold and Brenda returned to the Norwich area, making their home at Chenango Lake for many years. Harold took great pride in the house he built at Chenango Lake and enjoyed spending hours doing carpentry and woodworking projects in his leisure time. Prior to his retirement in 1980, Harold worked as a Claims Examiner for the NYS Department of Labor.
Harold was predeceased in death by his wife, Brenda, in 1999 and a son, Denis W. Curnalia in 2010. Harold is survived by six children: Candice Nice, Paul Curnalia, Carole S. Curnalia, Kevin Curnalia, Cheryl Barnes and Debra Curnalia. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and other family and friends.
As per Harold’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are with the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
