Thomas Lane


SHERBURNE – Thomas William Lane Jr. (Nov. 16, 1961 – Dec. 31, 2012) died at home in Sherburne. Born at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT, he grew up in Watertown, CT, and later Norfolk, CT. Mr. Lane graduated Northwestern Regional High School in Winsted, CT, in 1979 and was selected as a Merit Scholar by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. He received a B.A. in Mathematics from Washington University in St. Louis, MO, in 1983 and later worked toward an M.S. in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He began his career in the actuarial program at Travelers in Hartford, CT, later moving to New York City to work for Morgan Stanley as a software developer and researcher. He continued to work as a programmer for Jefferies, ITG, and other investment firms. In 2002, he moved to Sherburne, to raise beef cattle. Mr. Lane was an active member of St. Malachy’s Roman Catholic Church in Sherburne, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Mr. Lane is survived by four sisters and one brother: Mary Lane of Haworth, NJ, Anne Salice of Cutchogue, NY, Martha Lane of Cornwall Bridge, CT, Sarah Fitzgerald of McGraw, NY, and John Lane of Derby, CT. He is also survived by four brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law: Paul Cristello, Gary Salice, Edward Sebranek, Timothy Fitzgerald, and Jennifer Lane; and ten, loving nieces and nephews: Daniel Salice, Joseph Salice, Connor Fitzgerald, Liam Cristello, Thomas Salice, Elizabeth Fitzgerald, Hannah Fitzgerald, Spencer Lane, Hudson Sebranek, and Samantha Lane. Mr. Lane is predeceased by his brother, Daniel Lane, mother, Josephine Lane, and father, Thomas Lane. He enjoyed a large, extended family with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown, Ct., to St. John the Evangelist Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Platt Road, Watertown, Ct. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday evening 5-7 p.m.
