Casey Decker


NORWICH – Casey R. Decker, 31, of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 as the result of a car accident in her favorite possession, her Toyota FJ Cruiser.
Born Nov. 16, 1981 in Norwich, Casey was the daughter of Willard J. “Bill” and Gloria (Scott) “Scottie” Decker. She graduated from Norwich High School with the Class of 2000 and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in psychology from Southern Vermont College in Bennington, VT. Casey furthered her education at Morrisville College, receiving her Certified Nurse’s Aide degree. She was working at the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Norwich. Casey, previously, was a hard working substitute teacher in the Norwich Schools. As a life-long student of dance, Casey also taught gymnastics and dance at the Amber Perkins School of the Arts. Additionally, she had competed nationally in Western Horsemanship, Hunt Seat Equitation and at the Quarter-Horse Congress in Columbus, OH.
Casey was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. She was also an avid gardener and photographer, loving to shoot pictures outdoors of clouds, forests and flowers. She will be remembered as a caretaker of all, especially the young and old.
Casey is survived by her parents, Bill and Scottie Decker of Norwich, and her sister, Kobie Decker and her fiancé, Ryan Natoli, of Syracuse and many, many close friends. She is also survived by her two dogs, Anonymous and Prince Caspian.
A memorial service for Casey was held on Monday at the Wilson Funeral Home with the Very Reverend Charles Taylor, Rector of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Laurel Valley Cemetery in Deposit.
In lieu of flowers, Casey’s family has established the Decker Family Scholarship, c/o Debbie Ellwood at NBT Bank, 52 So. Broad St., Norwich, NY 13815. Additionally, they suggest offering an act of kindness to someone you love, a person in need or a pet.
