FLORA BATES
NORWICH – Flora Bates, 73, of Norwich, passed away early Sunday morning, Dec. 16, 2012, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born April 4, 1939 in North Norwich, Flora was the daughter of Jay and Gaynel Ingham Bates. She attended school in North Norwich and Sherburne and worked most of her life as a home health care aide for many area families.
Flora’s life was her grandchildren and she spent many happy times with them all. She was an avid WWE wrestling fan, enjoyed her fishing and was always ready to find a good game of bingo.
Flora is survived by her children, Kathi Parker of Norwich, Timothy Pollock and wife Patti of Mt. Upton, Harvey Pollock and wife Gina of Norwich, Richard Pollock and wife Amy also of Norwich, Gaynel Waters and husband Joe of PA, Sheila Ditty and husband Michael of Mt. Upton and a very close friend who she thought of as a son Darin Gray of Sidney. Also surviving is her sister Georgia Brown of Norwich, her brother Bradley Bates and wife Marjorie of Sherburne, 19 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Flora was predeceased by her sisters Lucille Cole, Dora Bates, Alice Beckwith, Emily Toopes, Carol Pollock and her brothers Robert, Byron and Lawrence Bates.
A funeral service for Flora will be held at noon on Thursday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will be in the North Norwich Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at noon.
