John Homann

COLUMBUS – John “Jack” Henry Homann Sr., 90, of the Town of Columbus, formerly of Oak Tree, Edison, N.J., passed away on Dec. 11, 2012 at MIB Hospital, Cooperstown.
Jack was born on March 1, 1922 in Jersey City, N.J., the son of William & Hilda (Klarmann) Homann. His childhood was spent in the Metuchen, N.J. area where he attended Metuchen Schools.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elinor (Hansen) Homann whom he married on May 31, 1947. He is also survived by his children; John Jr and Barbara Homann of Columbus, James Homann of Charleston, S.C., Sue Anne & Philip Miele of Columbus, Jay & Nancy Homann of St. Augustine, Fla., and Christine Homann who now resides in heaven. Also surviving are one brother, Edward Homann of Edison, N.J.; one daughter-in-law, Sharon Homann; 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his siblings; William Homann, Ethel Davis, Hilda Stolarski and Robert Homann.
Jack was a most loved man by so many, he could be big and gruff and yet so soft and tender, he loved his wife Elinor of 65 years with every fiber of his being then came his kids, grand kids, and great grand kids. The best father any kid could ask for and such a special Grampy ... the kids all loved him so. He was the kind of man that would write beautiful poetry on a scrap of paper while sitting looking out the window watching his squirrels and beautiful birds, the words would just flow. He was a veteran of World War II where he served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater of War, 1942-1945; he never really talked much about the war just the good old stories of the Islanders in the Pacific and his army buddies, but deep in his heart was proud to fight for his country. Jack was owner/operator of Jack’s Trucking and was a long time driver for Hall’s Fast Motor Freight in South Plainfield, N.J. He could do just about anything, whistle a tune while building his house to being a hobby farmer later in life to consoling a crying baby. He was a “Jack of all trades and master of many.” God has received a very special man into heaven that can never be replaced here on earth.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin.
