Clifford Hunsinger


MACON, Missouri – Clifford “Jan” Hunsinger, 73, of Macon, Missouri, passed into God’s hands on Dec. 5, 2012.
Born July 16, 1939, he was the son of Pauline and Clifford C. Hunsinger Sr. of Waverly.
He is survived by his wife, Laurie C. Hunsinger of Macon, Missouri and their two children Johnathan Clifford Hunsinger, age 15; and Hannah Laurie Hunsinger, age 14, also of Macon, Missouri.
He is also survived by his older brother Phil Hunsinger of Arizona and his younger brother John Hunsinger.
He is survived by his step children, who he also loved: Elizabeth Bachus of Mt. Upton, Rachael Maricle of Sherburne, Rebecca Slater of Earlville, Naomi Rohr of Sedalia, Missouri, and Ruthann Maricle of Mt. Upton.
He is also survived by his first wife, Janet B. Hunsinger of Earlville, and his children Heidi Hunsinger Johnson of Earlville, Jan Hunsinger Jr. of Moravia, Chris Hunsinger of Lake George, and Todd Hunsinger of Albany.
He is survived by many loving grandchildren.
Jan taught Science at Waverly and Suffern, NY: 1962-1968. He was an Associate Professor of Physical Education at the University of Rochester: 1968-1973. He also served as Associate Professor of Physical Education at Colgate University in Hamilton, NY: 1973-1988.
He loved teaching and coaching and took an interest in his students, both athletically and academically.
Jan was an elective member of Sherburne-Earlville Board of Education for three years. He was President of the Sherburne-Earlville Athletic Booster Club, for seven years. He was also an instructor and ambassador for the National Youth Sports program at SUNY Morrisville for nine summers. Jan represented the United States in Ecuador and put on sports clinics.
Jan was also a volunteer fireman and elected assistant chief.
He enjoyed fishing, nature, and family. He loved all of his family equally.
He was loved and admired by many and will be missed. He was a gentle, good and kind person.
