NORWICH – Vernon R. “Mac” McCarthy, 88, of Norwich, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012 in the New York State Veterans Home of Oxford. He was a World War II veteran where he served with the 618th Aircraft Control & Warning Squadron.
Mac was born on Aug. 4, 1924 in Little Falls, the son of Jas. and Mary Vogel McCarthy. Living in Norwich since the mid 1940s, Mac was employed by Champion Products for over 15 years. He had also worked for D-Tec Limo as a driver.
Mac always had a humorous side and enjoyed hunting near his home and riding his early vintage Harley Davison.
On Nov. 28, 1950 in Norwich he wed Marjorie Bauder, who survives.
Besides his wife Marjorie, Mac is survived by his grandchildren Brian Rink; Janine Schreck; Dennis Rink and wife RoseAnn; Jon-Paul Rink and wife Gina all living in PA and a granddaughter-in-law JoAnne Rink of SC. Also surviving are many great grandchildren and his brother Joe D. McCarthy of Burnsville, PA along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Mac was predeceased by his daughter Yvonne Carol Rink, his grandson Daniel Rink his sisters Grace and Jane and his brother James.
Memorial services for Mac will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Deer Pond Cemetery of North Pharsalia.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
