Edna Hill


OXFORD – Edna M. Hill, 94, of Oxford, passed away on Nov. 22, 2012 at the NYS Veterans Home, Oxford.
She was born on Sept. 26, 1918 in The Bronx, a daughter of the late William and Marie (Moder) Runge. On Sept. 3, 1938 she married Albert R. Hill, who passed away on February 13, 1991.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Roberta and Joseph Knoll of Oxford, Jacqueline Rhuman of Boise, ID, and Dorothy and Mitch Barrach of Casselberry, FL; her grandchildren, Jacquelyn and Tim Knoll-Carr, Eric J. Knoll, Justin Rhuman, James Rhuman, Katie Pearce, and Ricky Pearce. Several great grandchildren also survive.
Edna graduated from Jamaica High School in 1936 and Savage School of Physical Education. She then received her Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Cortland. She taught swimming and recreation in the YWCA in New York City, then at Guilford. She then taught physical education at Oxford Academy and Central School from 1954 to 1972. She was a life member of the NYS Retired Teachers Assn. and a past president of the Chenango County Retired Teachers. She was a former member of the Travelers Book Club, Fort Hill Post #376, American Legion Auxiliary and the Bridge Club.
She was a long time member of Christ Church in Guilford and was Sunday School Superintendent for 15 years. She attended St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Florida and was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Oxford. She was the social director of Pine Forest Mobile Home Community in Orange City, FL for several years during the winter months.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St Paul’s Episcopal Church, 32 Main St., Oxford, followed by interment in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.
Friends may call St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Oxford on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
