Barbara Annesi


NORWICH – Barbara E. Annesi, 89, of County Road 32 in Norwich, passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, in the Residential Health Care Facility of Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 2, 1923, in Sherburne, Barbara was the daughter of James L. and Dorothy (Cropsey) Finch. On Aug. 7, 1941, she married Dominic “Dusty” Annesi. Dusty died in 1983. Following her schooling, Barbara stayed at home and raised her children until they were grown and also helped run her husband’s gas station, Dusty’s Texaco. Once her children were grown she held various other jobs until being elected Tax Collector for the Town of Norwich, a position she held for over twenty years. Currently, Barbara was the Deputy Tax Collector for the town.
Barbara liked playing golf, and was an avid and accomplished bowler, which she participated in through her mid-eighties. She was a member of the Norwich Bowling Hall of Fame. Many will also remember her as that little old lady mowing her lawn and raking leaves at her Woods Corners home. She did those chores until this past year.
Barbara is survived by her children and their spouses, Joe and Pat Annesi of Naples, Tim and Kim Annesi of Norwich, Diane Jackson of Vernon, and Terry and Valerie Annesi of North Norwich; grandchildren, Chris and Mark Annesi, Kerri Annesi and Tim Annesi Jr., Stacy Jackson, Alicia Collins and Bethany Chase; six great grandchildren also survive. Barbara was predeceased by a granddaughter, Michelle Jackson. Also surviving is her best friend and companion, Sam, her cat.
Private funeral services for Barbara were held today at the Wilson Funeral Home. Rev. Ralph Bove, Pastor of St. Bartholomew’s Church, officiated. Burial took place in West Hill Cemetery in Sherburne.
Contributions in memory of Barbara may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Central NY Chapter, 5818 East Molloy Rd., Syracuse, NY 13211, one of her favorite charities due to the loss of her granddaughter, or the Chenango SPCA, 6160 County Road 32, Norwich, NY 13815.
