Margaret Holl


NEW BERLIN – Margaret C. Holl, 95, of New Berlin, passed away on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012 at Chase Memorial Nursing Home.
Born April 21, 1917 in Haswell, Co., she was the daughter of Oswell & Rosie (Chambers) Webster. Her family moved to the Columbus area in 1920 and she received her education in the area schools of Columbus.
Margaret married Everett Holl on Feb. 9, 1940. He predeceased her after nearly 62 years of marriage in 2002.
With Margaret’s “love of family” attitude and strong work ethic, she lived a self-proclaimed full, wonderful life caring for her family and working side by side with her husband on their dairy farms in Pittsfield and Columbus until retirement in 1977.
Margaret was a member of the Columbus Quarter Church and active in the ladies of Columbus Helping Hand Society and was happiest when she was surrounded by family. She enjoyed baking and gardening and delivered all the extra pies and produce to her friends and neighbors.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by four sisters; Alice Szot, Hazel Weston, Dora Swenson and Thelma Bordeaux; five brothers; Walter, Frank, Roy, Raymond and Ernest Webster.
She is survived by one daughter; Barbara (David) Gilbert of Port Orange, Fla.; one son; Ronald (Shirley) Holl of New Berlin; five grandchildren; Mike Gilbert, Debbie (Gary) Cline, Roger (Sherry) Gilbert, Rhonda (Spencer) Brown and Scott Holl; six great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Florence Webster and Lillian Holl; along with several nieces and nephews.
Following Margaret’s wishes, services will be private and at the convenience of the family after which she will be placed at rest beside her husband in Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.
Donations may be made to the Columbus Quarter Baptist Church c/o Sue Pope, North Main St. New Berlin, NY.
Arrangements are by the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin.
