Pearl Currie


SOUTH NEW BERLIN – Pearl E. Currie, 66, of Holmesville Hill Road, South New Berlin, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2006 in Wilson Memorial Hospital of Johnson City.
The daughter of Robert and Pearl (Blair) Potter, Sr., Pearl was born in Norwich on Dec. 18, 1939. After her years in the Norwich schools, she and Frederick G. Currie were married in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Norwich on May 19, 1956. Pearl and Fred’s first farm on Polkville Hill was lost to a fire over 43 years ago, and the family relocated to their present home, remaining there until the present. A loving woman who would help anyone in need. Pearl had taken in several foster children over the years. To her, her family came first, and she enjoyed their times together camping, fishing, and hunting. She was liked bowling, and enjoyed sewing and crocheting in her quiet times. Pearl’s first job was with the Norwich Knitting Mill, after which she became employed by Norwich Eaton Pharmaceuticals/Procter & Gamble, working on the lines for about 40 years before her retirement in 1996.
Pearl is survived by her husband, Frederick G. Currie of South New Berlin, with whom she had just celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary; by her children: Joyce Ray of South New Berlin, Frederick G. Currie, Jr. and wife Carol of South Plymouth, and Melissa Thomsen and husband William of South New Berlin; by her sisters, Lita Reel of Edmeston and Charlotte Symonds and husband Dennis of Huntington, W. Va.; and by her brothers: Robert Potter, Jr., and fiancée Liz Ryan of New Berlin and Edward Potter of Norwich. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Stacy Eldred, Tracy Mumbulo, Cierra Thomsen, and Shaylyn Thomsen; her step-granddaughter, Melissa Abarams; her great grandchildren: Ethen Eldred, Carter Eldred, and Kory Grant Mumbulo; and step-great grandchildren; William, Dylan, Hugh, and Jessica Abarams. Pearl was predeceased by her brother, Paul Potter.
Funeral services for Pearl will be held on Wed., May 31, at 10 a.m. from the Bible Baptist Church. The Rev. Ralph Hinman, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tues. from 7-9 p.m.
