Evelyn Bliven


OXFORD – Evelyn G. Bliven, 99, of Englewood, Fla. formerly of Oxford, passed away on Oct. 19, 2012 in Tidewell Hospice in Sarasota, Fla.
She was born on July 13, 1913 in Newport, a daughter of the late George and Jennie (Sherman) Guller. She was married to Ward Bliven, who passed away on Nov. 7, 1997.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean Dexheimer of Englewood, Fla.; her grandchildren, Douglas Dexheimer and Caroline Jones of Bainbridge and Thomas Dexheimer and Corinna Pedro of Riverview, Fla. and Christine Dexheimer of Sidney, and her great-grandchildren, Sarah Dexheimer Etheridge and her husband Jeremy of Germany and Tyler Dexheimer of Sidney. Also David Swartz, Ali and Megan Pedro.
Evelyn was a graduate of Newport High School, Class of 1932 and Excelsior Business School. She was a long time member of the United Church of Oxford and the Englewood United Methodist Church in Florida. She was a member of the Oxford Grange and currently an honorary member of the Lake Steere Club. She had worked at Oxford Academy and Central School from 1946 to 1956, when she went to work at NBT Bank, from which she retired in 1975. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her many friends while enjoying cooking and all kinds of needle work.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Englewood United Methodist Church, Doan Chapel. Funeral services will be held at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford, on Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Allen C. Lang, pastor of the United Church of Oxford, officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Englewood United Methodist Church, 700 East Dearborn St., Englewood, FL 34223, or the United Church of Oxford, PO Box 566, Oxford, NY 13830.
