Doris Hodge


SMYRNA – Doris I. Hodge, 87, of West Main St., passed away Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012 at Community Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility, Hamilton.
She was born June 10, 1925 in Lebanon, a daughter of Fay and Nancy Weber Foster and received her education in local schools. On Feb. 5, 1944, Doris married Warren G. Hodge in Norwich. He predeceased her on April 26, 2006. Doris had worked in the cafeteria at the Smyrna school, and then the Sherburne elementary school. She also worked for Kenyon Press until retiring in 1991. Above all, she was devoted to caring for her family and greatly enjoyed spending time with them. Doris’ favorite pastimes included doing puzzle books, playing checkers and reading her Bible. She was a wonderful Mom who will be deeply missed by all.
Doris was a member of the West Smyrna Baptist Church, and the Smyrna Baptist Church.
Surviving are her children, Louie and Nancy Hodge of Georgetown; Robert and Sheila Hodge of Earlville; Cindy and Gregg Ferris of Sherburne; Alex Hodge and Robin Wilson of Earlville; grandchildren, Erica and Kevin Austin; Brian Ferris and Shana McCready; Justin Hodge and Lindsay Clapperton; and Michael Wilson; great-grandchildren, Sean Meigs and Willow Austin; Nico Austin and Neil Ferris, a great-grandson due to be born in January; and a niece, Mae Kenyon. She was predeceased by her daughter, Tina Powell in 2008, and granddaughter, Robin Meigs in 2008.
Graveside services will be held in the Willcox Cemetery, Town of Smyrna, at the convenience of the family.
Contributions in her memory can be made to the Smyrna Emergency Squad.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne NY.
