NORWICH – Frances W. Kolbas, 87, formerly of Norwich, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, in Lakewood Ranch, FL.
Born March 23, 1925 in Churchville, Frances was the daughter of William and Viola Woityra. In 1943, she left the family farm to attend Ohio State University in pursuit of a Chemical Engineering Degree. On Sept. 13, 1947 in Churchville, she married John Michael Kolbas, who she met while at Ohio State.
In addition to raising their two sons, Fran was active in supporting many charitable organizations in the communities in which she lived. She also enjoyed golf, bridge, the arts, cooking, sewing and most importantly the many friendships she made during her life.
A child of God, a devoted and loving spouse, a kind and loving mother she is survived by her husband John, her sons and their wives, John and Lydia Kolbas of Lakewood Ranch, FL and Robert and Yan Kolbas of Raleigh, NC.; by her six grandchildren Angie (Mark) Strawmyer, Christie (Stefan) Selby, Michael, Daniel, Sara, and Mary; her four great-grandchildren Colin, Chandler, Brady and Abby, her sister Mae Bartman of Rochester, NY, her brother William (Pat) Woityra of Churchville, NY, her brother -in-law Paul (Phyllis) Kolbas, sister-in-law Peggy Roth and by many cherished nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Vincent and Edward.
