Ike Jones


NORWICH – Adelbert “Ike” Jones, 87, of Norwich, passed away at the home of his daughter, Cheryl Warner, early Tuesday morning, Oct. 9, 2012.
Ike was born on April 11, 1925 in Norwich, the son of Frank and Elizabeth Jewell Jones. He spent his entire life in the Norwich and South New Berlin area where he was known and respected by many. Over the years he has worked for Victory Markets in their warehouse, Briggs Lumber and R&L Log Sawmill where he worked as a miller. He will best be remembered in recent years by his dedicated and faithful work in taking care of the Whitestore Evergreen Cemetery.
Ike was without question a family man. He was always willing to help his fellow man and would give you the shirt off his back. His easy going manner and common sense helped him gain the respect of all who knew him.
Ike is survived by his daughter Cheryl Warner and her husband Dan of Norwich; her mother Gloria Smith Haggerty; his grandchildren Amy Abbott and her husband Joe of Smyrna, Timothy Macumber and his wife Lynn of South New Berlin, Richard Macumber and Jay Relyea both of Norwich. Also surviving are 11 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, several nieces and nephews, his companion Kristen Wheeler of Norwich and last but not least, his faithful canine companions, Jed and Samson.
Ike was predeceased by his son Terrance “Jake” Jones and his granddaughter Teresa Taylor.
Funeral services for Ike will be held at noon on Friday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Rebekah Sweet of Gouverneur will officiate. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery of South New Berlin.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at noon.
