Beverly Ray


NORWICH – Beverly A. Ray, 75, a life long resident of Norwich, passed away Tuesday morning, Aug. 28, 2012, in the Residential Health Care Facility of Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Bev was born in Norwich in May of 1937, the daughter of Charles and Maplet Powderly Kane. She attended the Norwich schools and was a 1956 graduate of the Norwich High School. On May 16, 1958 in Norwich, she married Albert Ray Sr. who survives. Her working career spanned a period of 37 years with the Norwich Shoe Co.which is where she met her husband.
Bev was a kind hearted individual and the word “no” was not in her vocabulary. She was always there for anyone who needed a helping hand. Her TV programs, such as CSI and Murder She Wrote, were very much a part of her daily routine. She also enjoyed reading and spending time with her canine friend Nokia.
Bev is survived by her husband Albert of Plymouth; her children Albert Ray Jr. and wife Paula of Plymouth, her daughter JoAnn Snowden and husband Michael of Monticello; her sisters, Marion Barnes and husband Clayton, Yvonne Jeffrey, Kathleen Swift and husband Dick and Arlene Howard and husband Bill all of Norwich; and her brothers Michael Kane and wife Linda of Norwich, Charles Kane and wife Sylvia of Sun City West, AZ and Tyrone Kane and wife Carolyn of Renton, WA. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Patrice Ray, Andrea Ray, Kara West and husband Jeremiah, Satanya, Michael and Taneka Snowden and her great grandchildren Kevin and Jasmine West and Caevion Fowler. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Bev was predeceased by her daughter Jane Schunk.
Funeral services for Bev will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.The Rev. Nancy Hale, pastor of the Broad Street United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m.
