Blanche Johnson


NEW BERLIN – Blanche M. Johnson, 91, of New Berlin, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Aug. 17, 2012 at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City.
Blanche was born on June 8, 1921 in Unadilla, the daughter of Frank & Grace (Houghton) Morgan. Her childhood was spent in the Unadilla area where she was a 1935 graduate of Unadilla Central School.
On Dec. 2, 1938 she married Ray F. Johnson, who predeceased her on May 25, 1973.
She was employed by Marjorie Phelps and worked for many years as a respite worker and family care provider.
Blanche was a very special Godly woman who always gave her energies to help other people. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and friend. Her family and church family were very important to her. She was very interested in keeping the families all in touch with one another.
She was talented in gardening, canning and sewing. She made wedding and special cakes for birthdays and other occasions. Everyone liked her macaroni and cheese as she was an excellent cook. She played the piano and taught Sunday school. She was the church clerk for the First Baptist Church of New Berlin for 20 years, was very interested in missions and was on the church mission board. She also helped with Good News Club at the home of Marjorie Phelps for 25 years.
She is survived by her children: Elwood & Sue (Kohlman) Johnson of Port Crane, Doreen (Johnson) & Karl Gregory of South New Berlin, Janice (Johnson) and Don Tuttle of Unadilla; as well as four grandchildren: Jeff & Jim Johnson and Chris & Matt Tuttle; and four great grandchildren: Brooke, Emily, James & Justin. She is also survived by her sister: Irene Chapman of California and Dudley Morgan of New Berlin as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers: Glen, Kenneth and Stewart Morgan; and her sister, Hilda Shaver.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of New Berlin, with Pastor Ernest Brodie officiating.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Dakin Funeral Home LP of New Berlin.
The interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Unadilla.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, New Berlin.
