DONALD CUMMINGS
NORWICH – Donald H. Cummings, 83, of Norwich, well known Norwich area painting contractor, passed away Monday afternoon, Aug. 13, 2013, at his home.
Don was born on June 14, 1929 in Trout Creek the son of Charles and Cora Jennings Cummings. He attended school in Trout Creek as well as the Norwich schools. In 1946 Don entered the United States Air Force serving his country until his honorable discharge in 1949.
Don was well known in Norwich and the surrounding area as a painting contractor and worked with Mike Morse in his contracting business for over 30 years. He had also work for Carl Olson Contracting.
Don is survived by his companion Kathy Kingsley; his children, Donald “Mike” Cummings and his wife Eileen, Patrick Cummings, Merrie Beadle and husband Gary and Kimberly Cavanaugh and husband Gary all of Norwich; his sister Pat Sutton of Norwich; as well as 16 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and Mike Morse, who he thought of as one of his sons.
Don was predeceased by his wife Genevieve Cummings, his sisters Tina Brigham, Joyce Post, Dorothea Shackelton, Letha Wood, Helen Leahy, Wanda Fiaschi and his brother Charles “Bud” Cummings.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at noon from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Earlville, will officiate. Interment with full military rites will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at noon.
