Martha Jacobi


NORWICH – Martha Marie Jacobi, 73, of Fort Myers, Fla., died on Aug. 12, 2012 at the Health Park Medical Center, Fort Myers.
She was born on Oct. 9, 1938 in Boston, a daughter of Albert and Ruth (Barrell) Bernard.
A graduate of Skowhegan (ME) High School, Boston University School of Fine Arts, she obtained her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Syracuse University.
Martha was employed as a music teacher in Amherst, Mass. and Kansas City area schools. She and her family were residents of Norwich between 1970 and 1991. She remained actively involved in music throughout her life, as a pianist and choral director and participant in church and hand bell choirs. From 1992 - 2005, she was employed in Saco and Biddeford, Maine as a licensed clinical social worker, then she relocated to Ft. Myers.
Surviving are her fiancé, Ronald Benjamin; a daughter, Jennifer Jacobi of McKinney, Texas; a son, Martin (Nyama) Jacobi of Eugene, Ore.; three grandchildren: Lara, Jake and Skyler; two sisters, Elizabeth (Larry) Fruzzetti and Louise (Rizwan) Nomani, all of Maine; and a brother, Albert Bernard, of Connecticut.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2439 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to any local animal shelter or the Susan G. Komen Fund.
