Allen Carpenter


NORWICH – Pastor Allen W. Carpenter went to be with his Friend & Savior, home with his heavenly Father, on July 30, 2012.
Born in Norwich in June of 1953, Allen was the son of Guy and Rachel Coy Carpenter. Following his graduation from Norwich High School, he attended and graduated from Practical Bible Training School (Davis College) in Binghamton. Presently the Pastor of the First Baptist Church of New Berlin, he had previously ministered at the Central Baptist Church of Binghamton, the Faith Baptist Tabernacle of Sherburne, the Faith Baptist Church of Cortland, the East Pharsalia Baptist Church of East Pharsalia, and the Holmesville Baptist Church of Holmesville.
On June 18, 1977, Allen married Emily Anderson Carpenter, who predeceased him in August of 1994. He was also predeceased by his father, Guy Everet Carpenter. On July 14, 2001, he married Laurel Hays Carpenter, who survives. Also surviving are his mother, Rachel Carpenter of New Berlin; his children: Pastor Matthew Carpenter of the Franklin Lakes Baptist Church, Franklin Lakes, N.J., and wife Julie, and Mickae Carpenter Lee and husband Corey of Marion; grandchildren Jacob Lee of Marion and Audrey Carpenter of Franklin Lakes; his uncle, Claude Carpenter and wife Harriett of Norwich; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Virginia Law and husband David of Norwich, Judy Yocum and husband Wayne of Noblesville, Ind., Marilyn Ryerse and husband David of Newport News, Va., Andy Hays and wife Tris of Villa Rica, GA, and Scott Hays and wife Lisa of Huntsville, Ala. Additionally, Allen is survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and too many friends to list, as well as his loving church family at First Baptist Church in New Berlin.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday from the First Baptist Church of New Berlin. Allen’s son, Pastor Matthew Carpenter, will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the First Baptist Church of New Berlin on Wednesday from noon until 2 p.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m.
