Margaret Conklin


PITTSFIELD – Margaret Harriett (Miller) Conklin, 93 of Pittsfield passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich.
She was born in Pittsfield, the daughter of Reuben Miller and Mary Frances (Gardner) Miller. She was married to Merrell Luther Conklin at the Congregational Church of Norwich on Feb. 17, 1938. They had been married for over 73 years at the time of his death. She had been employed by Scintilla of Sidney and retired from there several years ago. In her younger years she also worked at Todd’s Clothing store and later in McMclaughlin”s Dept. store. She was a longtime member of the D.A.R. She was a Girl Scout, Cub Scout and 4-H leader and particularly enjoyed the 4-H horse rides in the Brookfield State Land. She also enjoyed sewing and traveling. She was also a well known area historian.
She is survived by her children, Phyllis Guller and husband George of Orange, TX, Richard Conklin and wife Lynda of New Berlin, Judy Bice of Pittsfield, 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 Great Great grandchild, a son-in-law, Daren Nachtigall, and 2 brothers Donald D. Miller of New Lisbon and Lewis (Lukie) Miller of Pittsfield. She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Louise Conklin Nachtigall, and 3 sisters, Mildred Chase, Aleta Smith and Ethel White.
Calling hours will be held on June 10 at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services were held on Monday, June 11, at the funeral home at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Nancy Stanley officiating. Committal services and burial followed in the Hillington Cemetery in Morris. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.johnstonfh.com.
In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make donation to the Pittsfield Emergency Squad, 167 State Hwy. #80, New Berlin, NY 13411.
