Gordon Ginther


NORWICH – Gordon B. Ginther, 94, of Norwich, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Buffalo, on Dec. 18, 1917, Gordon was the son of Arthur J. and Helen M. (Bryce) Ginther. He graduated from Albion College in Michigan and took further studies at Michigan State University. In 1941, in Grand Ledge, MI, Gordon married Bethany L. Benjamin, who predeceased him in 2008. Gordon worked as a chemist for Upjohn Pharmaceuticals in Kalamazoo, MI, and for General Electric in both Pittsfield, MA and Schenectady. In 1953, he joined Norwich Pharmacal Company until retiring in 1977. He enjoyed his vegetable and flower gardens on King Settlement Road and Thompson Road, and resided at the Chenango Valley Home during his last few years of life.
Gordon was a member of the United Church of Christ First Congregational where he held several positions over the years. He was a Master Gardener, enjoyed hiking, woodworking, and traveling, and was a member of the NYS Archaeology Club. For years, Gordon also worked with the Boys Scouts and the 4-H Club.
Surviving are Gordon’s children and their spouses, Donna and Norris Gridley of Ronks, PA, Bryce Ginther of West Sand Lake, and Paul and Diane Ginther of Shawnee, KS. Six grandchildren, Darren, Jennifer, Amy, Andrew, Kevin, and Brian, also survive.
A private graveside service at Mt. Hope Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
