Carolyn Drake


SHERBURNE – Carolyn F. Drake, of East Street South, passed away Friday, May 18, 2012 at her home.
She was born in Polkville, a daughter of Daniel and Martha Petry Freed. She was a graduate of Norwich High School in 1952 and then Central City Business Institute in Syracuse. On June 18, 1954, Carolyn was married to John E. Drake in Poland, NY. He predeceased her on Oct. 19, 1983. Mrs. Drake worked in the Smyrna Post Office for several years, and also at the Sherburne-Earlville High School library until her retirement.
Carolyn was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sherburne, where she had been a Sunday school teacher. Active in community affairs, she was a Political Action District #3 committee person for Sherburne. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Norwich; and a former Den Mother for Sherburne Cub Scout Pack #66. She loved antiques and at one time, owned her own antique shop. She was devoted to her family, a loving and generous person who was an incredible cook. She enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid reader.
Surviving are her children, Chuck Drake of VT; David and Laura Drake of PA; Tim and June Drake of VA; a sister, Shirley Perkins of OR; brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel Freed of Cortland; Richard and Carol Freed, and Robert Freed, all of NC; and Barbara Freed of Binghamton; her beloved grandchildren, Jake Drake of VT; Haley Drake and Devin Drake, both of VA; Leah Drake and Jessie Drake, both of PA; and many very special nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her close friends, Barbara and Fran Hinkley. Two brothers, Donald and Russell Freed predeceased her.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Norwich.
There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
