NORWICH – Grace Marie Garofalo, 94, a life long Norwich resident, passed away Monday, May 21, 2012 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Grace was born in Norwich on Aug. 25, 1917, the daughter of Joseph and Rose Taranto Garofalo. She spent her entire life in Norwich and was educated in the Norwich schools. Grace had worked for the Norwich Knitting Mill as a trimmer for well over 40 years as well as a nurses aide at Chenango Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed her knitting and making many craft items for her family and friends.
Devoted to her Catholic faith, Grace was a life long and active member of St. Bartholomew’s Roman Catholic Church where she was a member of the Reparation Society as well as the Rosary Society.
Grace is survived by her sisters Josephine Jones and Phyllis Levesque of Norwich and Joan Smith of Oxford. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Grace was predeceased by her sisters Rose Forester, Angelina DeLucia and Nancy Garofalo and her brothers John and George Garofalo.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Grace will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. from St. Bartholomew’s Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Ralph A. Bove, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
