David Coleman


SMITHVILLE – Col. David W. Coleman lost his battle with cancer after a long courageous fight on May 19, 2012 at Wilson Hospital, Johnson City.
He is survived by his loving, devoted, caring, best friend and wife of 24 years, Barbara (Henninge) Coleman; his sons, Scott Coleman of Neptune, N.J. and Todd and Maricar Coleman of Rockaway, N.J.; his step son, Stephen and Amy Miller of Greene; his brother, Stanley and Vanessa Coleman of Smithville Flats; his sister, Linda Coleman of Marathon; his grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye, Joshua (JR) and Casandra (CJ) of Rockaway, N.J.; his brothers in law, Fred, Garrie and Joe Henninge and sisters-in-law, Peg Stanton and Marie Henninge. He is also survived by his special “Munchkin” June’ay Oliver and loyal companion, Spot. David has so many special friends, especially his lifelong friends, “Brother Bob” Mertz and KB Barnes. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
David was predeceased by his mother, Lois (Franklin) Coleman, his father, Walter Coleman, his mother-in-law, Claire (Doxie) Henninge, his father in law, Fred Henninge, Sr., his special dog, C.B. and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
David enjoyed life to the fullest. He especially enjoyed Smithville Days, weather watching, clambakes and just being a visible friend to everyone.
A special thank you to Dr. Graham and nurse Rosie from Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Basking Ridge, NJ, Dr. Martin Masarech, and the staff at Wilson Hospital for all the loving care that was provided to the Colonel.
A very special thank you to his many friends, who took the time out of their busy schedules to transport Dave, to his appointments at Sloan Kettering in Basking Ridge, especially Steve Littlefield.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Kennedy Funeral Home, 21 N. Chenango St., Greene, with the Rev. Curtis Whitman, pastor to the First Congregational Church of Greene officiating. Burial will follow in Smithville Flats Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Kennedy Funeral Home, Greene on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Genegantslet Fire Company or the Greene Emergency Squad or the charity of one’s choice.
