Elizabeth Fagan


EARLVILLE – Elizabeth A. Fagan, 87, of South Main St., passed away Monday, May 14, 2012 at the Community Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in Hamilton.
She was born Feb. 9, 1924 in Corning, a daughter of Thomas and Winifred Ryan Rosettie. Elizabeth was a graduate of Corning High School, received her BA in English from Ursline College in Cleveland, OH, and her MA in Education from C.W. Post on Long Island. On Jan. 31, 1948, Elizabeth married Hewlett T. “Red” Fagan in Corning. Following their marriage, they lived in Bath, Hudson Falls, Clark Summit, PA, Huntington Station, LI and then to Earlville in 1969. “Red” predeceased her on May 21, 1994. Betty was a teacher at Sherburne-Earlville Central School and Chairman of the English Department until her retirement. She was the first teacher honored with the Wall of Fame Award at S-E Central School.
Betty was a communicant of St. Malachy’s Church in Sherburne, and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was very active with Catholic Charities and served on the Board of Directors. She was also an active member of the Teachers Association; a member of the Earlville Board of Elections; and a Board member of the Quincy Square Museum in Earlville.
Surviving are her children, Mary and John McKenna, Northport; Kathryn and David Hill, Sugar Land, TX; Frances and Kenneth Knaga, Crumb Point, IN; Thomas and Laura Fagan, Earlville; and Michael Fagan, Canler, NC; sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Ron Thursack, KY; sister-in-law, Grace Rosettie, Corning; twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Rosettie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday from St. Malachy’s Church, East State St., Sherburne, followed by interment in St. Malachy’s Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
