Walter Prosser


OXFORD – Walter J. Prosser, (Wally) (Harv), 54, of Oxford, passed away Thursday morning, April 26, 2012, at his home.
Walt was born in Norwich on May 7, 1957 the son of Harry and Reta Calvert Prosser. He grew up in the Oxford and Norwich area and attended the local schools. A 36 year employee of the Norwich City Schools, Walt was currently serving as head custodian.
An accomplished pool player, Walt was a member of the APA (American Pool Association) and along with his wife had played in many tournaments throughout the country including Las Vegas. He was also an avid chess player and enjoyed playing the game on his computer with people from across the country. If you were up for it he would take you on in person, especially his daughter Kim.
Walt was a funny individual who was a true jokester and loved to make people laugh. He enjoyed his hunting and riding his 4-wheeler.
On July 26, 1975 in Plymouth, he married Cindy Head.
Walt is survived by his wife Cindy of Oxford, his mom and step dad Reta and Clarence Head of Smyrna, his children Kimberly (Mike) Bishop of Oxford and Rusty Ray of Elmira, his sisters and brothers: Norman Prosser of Smyrna, Anna Nelson of Sherburne, Douglas Head and wife Becky of Smyrna, Vicky Foster and husband Gary of Earlville, Tim Prosser and wife Skeet of Norwich, Richard Head and wife Tammy of Oxford, Valerie Nelson and husband Geritt of Smyrna and Corey Prosser. Also surviving are his grandchildren Octavia, Vanessa, Hunter and Bradley Bishop along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Walt was predeceased by his dad Harry and his brother Randy.
Funeral services for Walt will be held at noon on Tuesday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Neil Bendixen, pastor of the Canasawacta Valley Free Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at noon.
