Doris Smith


SHERBURNE – Doris I. Smith, 89, of Foote Hill Rd., passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich.
She was born March 2, 1923 in Hudson, a daughter of Alfred and Lillian Coons Isaacson. She was a graduate of Hudson High School and SUNY Cobleskill. On Aug. 25, 1946, Doris married Chester “Chet” Smith in Hudson. They moved to Sherburne in 1966. Initially, Doris worked as a dietitian in Hempstead, Long Island, and then as a telephone company representative in Malone. Later, she was a secretary at the NBT Bank in Sherburne until her retirement. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sherburne.
Surviving are her husband, Chet; two sons and daughters-in-law, Stuart C. and Elizabeth Smith of Vermont; Rodney L. and Kathy Smith of Binghamton; a sister, Ruth Murphy of Poughkeepsie; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Robert and Joan Isaacson of Naples, Maine; Richard and Raina Isaacson of Washington; and Mary Isaacson of Hyde Park; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Alfred Isaacson, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 3, from the First United Methodist Church, Chapel St., Sherburne, followed by interment in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne.
Friends are invited to call at the church on Thursday from noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
