Elizabeth Haynes


GILBERTSVILLE – Elizabeth (Betty) Haynes, 84, of Gilbertsville, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Fox Hospital, Oneonta.
She was born in Gilbertsville, the daughter of Merton Haight Lilley and Marion (Olmstead) Lilley. She married Edwin (Ted) Haynes May 12, 1951. He passed away Jan. 8, 1978. She was a well known beautician having attained her certificate in cosmetology over 66 years ago. She was an avid bowler and participated in the Wednesday night women’s bowling league in Bainbridge for many years. She was a member of the United States Bowling Congress and elected into the Hall of Fame in November of 2009. She was a very good mother who was very proud of her family. She was always known as a hardworking lady who always enjoyed being an active member of the Gilbertsville community.
She is survived by her children David Haynes and wife Penny of Gilbertsville, and Lora Lee Russo and husband Paul of Norwich. Her grandchildren, Stephanie Haynes of Saugerties, Erin Haynes of Albany, Craig Downey and wife Whitney of Norwich and Brandon Downey of Greene. Her great-granddaughter, Natalie Downey of Norwich. Her siblings, Jean Gilbert of Bainbridge, Ginny VanValkenburg of Sidney Center and Sherry Lilley and Jim of Unadilla, Clyde (Barb) Lilley of New Berlin, Keith (Barb) Lilley of Otego, Wayne (Doni) Lilley of South New Berlin and her sister in law Peg Lilley of Gilbertsville. Betty was predeceased by her brothers Warren and Bruce Lilley. Her sister, Marilyn Enggaard and Betty’s long time companion Cliff Stevens.
Calling hour will be held on Saturday at the Presbyterian Church of Gilbertsville at 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 at which time a memorial service will be held with the Reverend Mark Piedmonte officiating. A graveside committal service will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Gilbertsville.
