Wilford Pearson


NORWICH – Wilford A. Pearson, 88, a life long Norwich resident and well known area farmer, passed away Sunday morning, April 15, 2012, in the Valley View Manor Nursing Home.
Wilford was born in Norwich on Sept. 29, 1923, the son of Arthur and Fannie Porteous Pearson. He spent his entire life in Norwich and on Oct. 7, 1944 in Norwich he married Dorothy J. Norton, who passed away July 6, 1993.
A well known and respected area farmer, Wilford and his mother owned and operated the last dairy farm in the City of Norwich which was located where Perry Browne school now sits. For many years he and his wife owned and operated a prominent produce dealership in addition to operating the dairy farm and poultry distribution business which served independent grocery owners. He was a hard working man who enjoyed talking to other area farmers.
Wilford is survived by his children; Doris Brooks and her husband Charles of Norwich, John Pearson also of Norwich and Frederick Hall and his wife Lillian of Oneonta; his grandchildren Pamela Sands and husband William of Unadilla, Donna Decker and husband Donald of Oneonta, Frederick Hall Jr. and wife Andrea of Mt. Vision, Penelope Timer and husband John of Laurens, Wendy Cleveland and husband Steve of Oneonta, Linda Winston and husband Steve of Norwich and Joshua Pearson of Norwich. Also surviving are several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and his adopted brother Thomas Squires.
Besides his wife, Wilford was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Ruth Pearson.
Funeral services for Wilford will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m.
