Marie Robb

NORWICH – Marie J. Robb, 86, of Norwich, passed away early Thursday, April 12, 2012, at her home, following a short illness.
Born in Binghamton in March of 1926, Marie was the daughter of Louis and Pauline Brizee Schroeder. She grew up in Norwich with her mother and the only father she ever knew, Miles Christian, and was a graduate of Norwich High School’s class of 1944. On May 20, 1944, a month shy of her graduation, she married Lawrence Robb in Greene. Marie worked for a short while before graduation for Montgomery Ward, but her real job outside her home was with the Chenango Valley Home. She worked there for 40 years, both in the dining area and as a member of the cleaning staff, and loved working with the residents. Marie was kind and generous to other people. She loved to camp, play piano, watch the old black-and-white movies, read, do crossword puzzles, and sew, often helping the residents with their mending. She also had a great love of animals and usually shared her home with at least one dog.
Marie is survived by her children and their spouses: Kathy and Harvey Burdick, and Valerie and Steve Andrews; by 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren; and her dog, Shadow. She was predeceased by her husband, Larry, on March 5, 2007, and her son, “Stevie” Robb in May of 2007.
Graveside services for Marie will be private and at her family’s convenience. Nelson Park will officiate. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to either the Chenango County SPCA, 6160 County Road 32, Norwich, NY 13815; or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815.
Arrangements are with the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
