Roger Shackelton Sr.

OXFORD – Roger H. Shackelton Sr., 68, of Oxford, passed away Friday, April 6, 2012, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Born on June 6, 1943, in Bainbridge, Roger was a son of the late Hilton and Dorothea Cummings Shackelton. On July 3, 1965, at the First Methodist Church in Paris, Illinois, he married Patricia Alcorn, who survives.
Roger graduated from Norwich High School Class of 1961. He furthered his education by attending SUNY Morrisville, where he earned an associate’s degree in business administration. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion. He was a member of St. Paul’s Church of Norwich. Roger loved to cook, play cards with his family and his grandchildren, loved working outdoors, and was known to be able to fix just about anything.
Roger talked to everyone but listened to no one, had a great sense of humor and pride in all he did. He made friends with everyone he met and his greatest joy was being a husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed anything with wheels, had a lifelong passion for cars, enjoyed model trains, the annual Shack fest golf outing, and talking sports. He cherished his dog, Herbie.
In addition to his wife, Patricia, Roger is survived by his children: Roger and Lisa Shackelton, Jr., of Norwich, Bill and Audrey Shackelton of Rochester, Michelle and Val Graczyk of Norwich, and Alisa Shackelton of Rochester; his brothers and their wives, Bruce and Cindy Shackelton of Sidney, Ralph and Lola Shackelton of Florida; his sisters and their husbands, Louise Harrison and Olin of Florida, Fayetta and Roy Vandemark of Unadilla; and his grandchildren: Cassara, Taylor, Mackenzie, Madison, Evan, Little Man Val, and Amanda. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins, aunts and uncles, also survive.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Roger will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday from St. Paul’s Church. The Rev. Ralph Bove, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-6 and 7-9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY 13790.
