Nancy Humphrey

NORTH NORWICH – Nancy L. Humphrey, 55, life-long area resident and recently of North Norwich, passed away early Tueday morning, March 27, 2012, at home, with her family at her side.
Born in South Plymouth in December of 1956, Nancy was the daughter of Kenneth and Lillian Doane Sutton. While growing up in the area, she attended and graduated from Norwich High School. Nancy and John Humphrey were married on Oct. 9, 1982, and, in addition to raising her family, Nancy went to work outside the home. She was employed for a time by KST Insurance and the Norwich Pennysaver, and she and husband John owned and operated their own auto repair business. Her last “job,” and the one she treasured most, was that of “stay-at-home grandma.” She was a woman who adored her family and loved spending time with them. She also liked scrapbooking, camping with her family, going to all her grandchildren’s events and watching them, and, before her health prohibited it, driving in demolition derbies. The first woman demo driver in Chenango County, Nancy had the distinction of having won the derby at the Chenango County Fair in August of 1989. Nancy enjoyed going to the races and watching her son race weekly. She was his biggest fan.
Nancy is survived by her husband, John Humphrey, and her children and their spouses, Harold and Sandy Humphrey and Krystal and Michael Powell, all of Norwich. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Darrel Humphrey, LeahAnne Humphrey, Logann Dolan, and Jolei Powell; her brothers, Lyndon Sutton and wife Jeannette of Smithville Flats and Mark Sutton and wife Linda of Maine; many nieces and nephews; and her best friend and caregiver, Cindy Reidi. In addition to her parents, Nancy was predeceased by her brothers, Barry and Emmett.
Funeral services for Nancy will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Nancy Hale, pastor of the Broad Street United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m.
