Virginia Maynard


NORWICH – Virginia Rae (Price) Maynard, 87, a resident of Norwich for most of her life, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, March 21, 2012 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
One of eleven children, Virginia was born July 2, 1924 in Alvarado, Va., the daughter of Oklen and Katherine Dunn Price. She moved to the Sherburne area with her family as a child and subsequently to Norwich in 1945 where she made her home until her passing. She was employed by the Norwich Eaton Pharmaceutical Co. from 1946 until her retirement in 1987.
The eldest sibling in her family, Virginia was placed in the role as substitute matriarch of her family. She helped raise her younger siblings while her parents were earning a living. Her passion was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She touched the lives of many people with her generosity and maintained her trademark sense of humor and giggle all the way to the end. Virginia loved to tend to her flowers in the garden and had a remarkable green thumb.
Virginia will be remembered fondly by countless family members and all that knew her. She will be missed greatly.
Virginia is survived by her daughters: Patricia Whitmore and husband Tom of Norwich, Sherry Whitmore and husband Charles of Earlville; her grandchildren Cheryl (Whitmore) Welch of Norwich, Renee (Whitmore) Devine and husband Dan of Clifton Park, Travis Whitmore of Earlville and Timothy Whitmore and wife Cheryl Ann of Cicero; her great grandchildren Alyssa and Logan Welch, Evan Devine and Micayla Whitmore. Virginia is also survived by her sisters: Vivian Bullard and husband Chuck of Tampa, Fla., Viola Crandall of Smyrna, Barbara Thomas of Tampa, Fla., Linda Diamond and husband Robert of Sherburne; her brothers: Clarence Worley Price and wife Sally of Tampa, Fla., Frank Price and wife Marge of Sherburne and Philip Price and wife Chareen also of Sherburne. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive.
Virginia was predeceased by her sister Lois Dempsey and her brother Clifford Price and infant brother Samuel Price.
Memorial services for Virginia will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Stephen Reese, pastor of the Columbus Community Church, will officiate. There will be no calling hours.
