Theodore Gohl


AFTON – Theodore Albert Gohl, 76, of Afton, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at James G. Johnson Memorial Nursing Home in Binghamton.
He was born Nov. 16, 1935 son of the late Warren and Alberta (Hodge) Gohl in Whitney Point. Ted was employed by IBM and retired to pursue his love of farming.
Ted married Mary (Yaeger); together they ran the farm and raised a family. He was a past member of the Chenango County Grange and the Town of Afton Planning Board and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Afton.
He is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law: Cindy and Gregory Bales, Afton; Carol and Brian Fisher, Afton; Mary Ellen Warrick, Afton; and Colleen and Roger Ashworth, Bainbridge. Fifteen grandchildren: Shanda Ives, David Bales, Amanda Mission, Nathan Bales, Isaac Bales, Melissa Kittle, Kate Hopkins, Heidi Dicks, Elisha Decker, Erika Gohl, Molly, Madelynn, Meghan and Marissa Ashworth and Andrew Hosier; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law: George and Kathy Gohl, Bainbridge, Howard and Mary Jane Gohl, Oxford and Dennis and Linda Gohl, Appalachian; sisters and brothers-in-law: Sharon and Butch Gohl-Muserallo, Norwich and Barbara and Bill Rocks, North Norwich; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ted is also predeceased by his wife, Mary, and two sons, Theodore, Jr. and Chris Gohl.
The family wishes to thank the James G. Johnson Memorial Nursing Home staff of the Star and Sun Units for the wonderful care they provided to Ted.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Afton. Funeral services will follow at 11 with Rev. Christopher Prezorski officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Afton.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Afton 30 Caswell St. Afton, NY 13730 or the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
