Joan Scalise


NORWICH – Joan F. Scalise, 78, of Norwich, passed away Tuesday evening, March 13, 2012 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 27, 1933 in Herkimer, Joan was the daughter of Leon and Verna Edgett Church. She grew up in the Herkimer area and was a 1951 graduate of the Herkimer High School. On June 5, 1954 at St. Anthony’s Church in Herkimer she married Joseph T. Scalise, who passed away June 22, 1998. Joan and her husband moved to the Norwich area in 1969 where they continued to make their home. She had worked in the Norwich school cafeteria and was a volunteer for over 30 years at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Joan was devoted to her family and found joy and contentment in the time she spent with them. She was extremely proud of her grandsons and their accomplishments and her great grandchildren were her life.
Joan is survived by her daughter Deborah (Debbie) Hall and her husband Kevin of Norwich, her grandsons Todd Hall and his wife Heather of Norwich, Scott Hall and his wife Molly of Bridgewater, N.J., her great grandchildren Matthew, Joseph and Nicholas Hall and Connor and Leah Hall. Also surviving is her sisters-in-law Marie Scalise of Herkimer and Viola Church of Mohawk, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Theresa and Anthony Cugliandro of Ilion and her brother-in-law Dorland McEwen of Latham along with several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband Joseph, Joan was predeceased by her sister Patricia McEwen, her brother Robert Church and her brother-in-law Orrie Scalise.
At Joan’s request there will be no formal services.
Interment with a graveside service will be held at a later date in Calvary Cemetery of Herkimer.
