Frederick Stone


SOUTH PLYMOUTH – Frederick Glenn Stone Sr., 78, of South Plymouth, passed away at the home of his oldest son, Sheridan and his great granddaughters Alexis Pierson and Ashley Pitts on Sunday morning, March 4, 2012 with his family at his side.
Fred was born in New Berlin on March 27, 1933. He was the son of Hugh and Clara Cole Stone and has made his home in the area all of his life. For 29 years Fred owned and operated Stone Sanitation with his son Justin which is now operated by Fred’s daughter Penny. Over the years he also has worked for the Family Bargain Center, the Norwich Pharmacal Co. and the Rotary Gas Station in Norwich.
Fred loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing and camping, especially with his friends Mike and Cathy Tooley. A lover of classic country music, Fred could quite often be found spending time with Mike Tooley’s band. He also enjoyed 4-wheeling, singing and whistling with his pet birds.
Fred is survived by his children; Sheridan Stone and wife Madeline of South Plymouth, Sherry Wellman and husband John of Norwich, Frederick (Skip) Stone, Jr. and wife Cathy of Sherburne, Billy Gray and wife Tonya of Otselic and Penny Stone and fiancee Joe Theut of South Plymouth, 73 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters Gloriann DuBois and husband Don of North Pitcher, Mary Stone also of North Pitcher, Winnie Palamaro of Norwich and Shirley Smith of Gilbertsville. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Fred was predeceased by his parents Hugh and Clara Stone, his wife Linda Stone, son Justin Stone, his grandchildren Kristy L. Gray, Patrick Stone, Dodie L. Whaley, great grandson Deacon Prosser, his sisters Vivian, Molley, Genieve, Ethelyn, Barbara and his brothers Harold, Hugh, Sheridan, Jimmie and Larry.
Funeral services for Fred will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Neil Bendixen, pastor of the Canasawacta Valley Free Methodist Church, will officiate.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Sunday from noon until the time of the service at 2 p.m.
Interment will be at a later date in the Deer Pond Cemetery of North Pharsalia.
