Susan Phelps


NORWICH – Susan M. Phelps, 58, of Norwich, passed away on Monday, Feb. 27, 2012 at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Norwich on Dec. 9, 1953, Susan was the daughter of David D. and Mary (Swartout) Phelps. She graduated from Norwich High School with the Class of 1971 and thereafter graduated from Keuka College, receiving her nursing degree. Following graduation, she worked as a registered nurse at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Later, Sue worked for several years in her family’s Chenango Union Printing business and, in her final days, for Enlightened Dentistry.
Sue enjoyed reading, gardening, and traveling. Her greatest joys, however, were her family, close friends, and her dog, Hannah.
Sue is survived by her mother, Mary, and brothers Christopher Phelps and his wife, Susan, of Charlotte, N.C., Joseph Phelps and his wife, Debra, of Norwich, Andrew Phelps and his wife, Pamela, also of Norwich and James Phelps and his wife, Tracie, of Cornelius, N.C. She is also survived by her sister, Annette Brown and her husband, Timothy, of Flagstaff, Ariz.; step-sisters Patricia Webb of Rome, Joanne Post of Manlius, and Diane Mohr of Norwich. Also surviving are nieces, Marissa, Briana, Kiersha and Alexa, as well as nephews, Ben Phelps & Jonathon Brown. Sue was predeceased by her father, David and Step-mother, Beverly Slater Webb.
A private service for family and close friends will be held Friday morning at the Wilson Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours.
