Fern Wolford


GREENE – Fern Louise Maider Wolford, 90, of Greene, passed away at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton, on Monday, Feb. 20, 2012.
She was predeceased by her parents, Harry Garfield Maider and Emma (Bettinger) Maider; husband of over 50 years, Roland F. Wolford; and sister, Clara Marshall of Clay. Fern is survived by her children, Ann (Michael) Reed of Liverpool, Bonnie (Frank) Possanza of Jessup, PA, Corey (Polly Auwarter) Wolford of Norwich, Dale (Carinne Wright) Wolford of Geneva, and brother, Harold Maider of Ocala, FL. Fern is survived by nine grandchildren, David Possanza, Matthew Wolford (Elizabeth), Brian Possanza (Kathy), Nikki Wolford Brooks (Ron), Megan Wolford Thomas (John), Jeremy Reed, Andrew Wolford (Katie), Liz Reed and K.C. Wolford; nine and one-half great-grandchildren, Jackson Wolford, Payton Thomas, Zachary Wolford, A.J. Thomas, Drew Brooks, Emma Brooks, Julia Possanza, Benjamin Wolford, Riley Louise Wolford and TBD July 2012 Wolford; cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Fern was born in Phoenix, NY on Oct. 25, 1921 as the middle of three children. She and Roland were classmates in school and were married on July 17, 1942. They moved to Greene that same year as Roland began his career in the Greene Central Schools. Fern attended business school in Rochester and was a secretary in Syracuse before marriage. She worked at Raymond Corporation and at the guidance office at Greene Central School. Fern was a member of the Smithville Center United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Root Funeral Home. Pastor Brandilynne Craver of Smithville Center United Methodist Church will officiate.
Friends of the family may call Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at Root Funeral Home 23 N. Chenango Street, Greene. Burial will be in Sylvan Lawn Cemetery, Greene in the spring.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Smithville Center United Methodist Church, c/o Karl Ludwig, 940 Stone Quarry Road, Oxford, NY 13830, or to the Greene Fire Department, 6 N. Canal Street, Greene, NY 13778.
