Gladys Tiffany


NORWICH – Gladys G. Tiffany, 86, of Norwich, passed away in the arms of her son, Monday evening, Feb. 13, 2012, following a short illness in the Chase Memorial Nursing Home of New Berlin.
The daughter of Jacob and Helena Herbster Geertgens, Gladys was born on July 26, 1925 in Franklin. She grew up in the Franklin area where she attended the local schools. Gladys furthered her education by attending nurses training school in Binghamton. On Oct. 14, 1955 she married Henry ‘Hank’ Tiffany, who passed away on Oct. 7, 1981. They moved to Norwich in the mid 1950s where they continued to make their home. Over the years Gladys had worked for the Bendix Corp. in Sidney from which she retired after a period of 35 years.
Gladys is survived by her children; Marcia Olin and her husband David of Norwich, Sandra Anderson of Norwich, Robin Spencer and her husband Richard of Merrimack, N.H., Patti Tiffany and Alan Broome of Bowie, Md. and Timothy Tiffany of Norwich, her sisters Frances Green of Florida, Florence Simmons of Albany and her brothers Glenn Geertgens of Unadilla and Paul Geertgens of Schenectady. Also surviving are her five grandchildren; Jessica Olin, Michael Anderson and his wife Anna, Caitlin, Ryan and Daniel Spencer, her great granddaughter Sophia Anderson and her beloved grand dogs Granny, Peanut, Daisy, Timmi, Alfie, Winnie and Joey.
Besides her husband Henry, Gladys was predeceased by her sisters Luella Shaw, Irene Reinking, Lucille Stork, Dorothy Adams and Marion Geertgens and her brothers Richard, Benjamin, LeRoy, Earl, and Flemming Geertgens and her son-in-law Stephen Anderson.
At Gladys’ request there will be no formal services. A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Arrangements are with the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
