Raymond Doing

SOUTH PLYMOUTH – Raymond Frank Doing, 73, of South Plymouth, passed away early Wednesday morning, Feb. 8, 2012, at his home on the Doing Farm in South Plymouth, where he had many fond memories as a child.
Ray was born May 17, 1938, the son of Clifford C. and Evelyn Beardsley Doing. He attended grade school in a one room school in South Plymouth before its consolidation with the Norwich school system. After he completed his high school education, Ray entered the United States Army, serving as a electrician in electrical maintenance on Navy escort ships. Following an honorable discharge, Ray continued training and working as an electrician in the Norwich area for Osborne Electric, IBEW Union, and Victory Markets maintenance.
Many area residents will remember Ray as the owner/ operator of R&R Electrical Services on the East River Road in Norwich, where he and his dedicated employees serviced the electrical needs of the area.  After retiring from R&R, Ray continued working as a Section 8 HUD inspector for Opportunities for Chenango. Through the years Ray was active in the community as a member of the former Moose Club, the Norwich Lions Club, and served as Commissioner for the Plymouth Fire District. In addition he was an active member of the Plymouth Reservoir Lot Owners Association at Plymouth Reservoir, where he participated in the NYS Lake and Water testing program and flipped many pancakes at the Reservoir’s fundraiser breakfasts.
Although Ray actively participated in the community and formed many business and personal friendships, he was a very private individual.
Ray is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Rena Cole Doing, and his sons Scott and Stephen Doing, all of South Plymouth; his grandchildren: Mercedes Doing, Nicole Watts, Kyya, Rayna, Noah, and Cole Doing. Also surviving are his nephews and their families:  David and Melody Doing of North Norwich and Allan and Terri Doing of Sherburne; his step-sister and family, Virginia Powell of Beaufort, S.C.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law and their family, Lonnie and Mildred Cole of Virginia Beach, Va. Ray was predeceased by his parents Clifford and Evelyn, step-mother Amy (Ellsworth) Doing, his brother Charles Doing, and special aunt and uncle, Viola (Doing) and Harold Cumber, as well as uncles James, Richard and Robert Beardsley.
Respecting Ray’s privacy there will be no calling hours or funeral services. The family will be gathering at a later date to celebrate his life and memories, and asks that Ray’s community of friends celebrate their memories of Ray.
Please consider memorial contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, or to the Plymouth Fire District, Plymouth.
Arrangements are with the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
