Doris Maynard


SMYRNA – Doris C. Maynard, 85, of Willcox Road, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012 at the Crouse Community Center in Morrisville.
She was born Oct. 7, 1926 in Sanford, a daughter of Nelson and Margaret Daniels Coon. She was a graduate of Morris High School and Keuka College where she majored in chemistry. She also did post-graduate work at Colgate University in Hamilton. On Aug. 6, 1949 Doris was united in marriage to C. Edgar Maynard in Morris. They made their home on their farm in Smyrna where Edgar was born and lived his entire life. He predeceased her on Feb. 28, 2006. Doris had been a teacher and was a homemaker whose life was devoted to caring for her family. She was a member of the Smyrna Baptist Church.
Surviving are her children, Lorraine and Nigel Seddon, Peter and Linda Maynard, all of Smyrna; Joanne and Jim Church of Ithaca; Lois and Douglas McVarish of Collingswood, N.J.; Nathan and Jodie Maynard of South Otselic; grandchildren, Alastair and Colin Seddon, Dawnne Dehne, Eric Maynard, Justin and Dylan Church, Kriss, Ben and Ian Maynard; great-grandchildren, Gregory and Timothy Dehne, Zoe and Madeline Seddon, Leyla Young; brother and sister-in-law Douglas and Ellen Coon of Morris; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Bertha Coon Lester.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Smyrna Baptist Church.
Friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon in the Fellowship Hall of the church following the service.
Interment will be in the West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne in the spring.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne on Friday from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m.
