Walter Davies


SHERBURNE – Walter T. Davies, 78, of West Hill Rd., passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2012 at his home.
He was born Dec. 18, 1933 in Bayshore, a son of Charles C. and Alice Waldron Davies and received his education in Islip Terrace. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. On Nov. 8, 1969, Walter married Ethel J. Burckard in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Islip. She predeceased him on July 3, 2005. Walt had been a union mason, and later started his own business, Walt Davies Masonry in Sherburne. He was a loving and devoted family man who, along with Ethel, raised over 100 foster children for more than 17 years.
Walter was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Sherburne.
Surviving are his children, Lois and Jeff Grohman of Erieville; Laurie Kies of Pawleys Island, S.C.; Sandra and Fred Komoroski of Brightwaters; Donna Vaughn of Las Vegas; Nancy and Rob Anderson of Lowell, Mass.; John LoPresti of Norwich; Walter, Jr. and Robin Davies of North Norwich; Ryan Fuller of Smyrna and Jeffrey Davies of Sherburne; seventeen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and his many foster children.
Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
Interment in the Episcopal Church Parish Cemetery will be in the spring.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3 to 6:30 p.m. prior to the service.
