Leonard Mayne


SHERBURNE – Leonard A. Mayne, 69, of State Highway 12, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012 at his home.
Len was born Sept. 14, 1942 in New Berlin, a son of the late Lloyd and Alice Creighton Mayne. He was a graduate of Sherburne High School and then apprenticed as a tool & die maker. He was employed at TACO in Sherburne as a tool & die maker for 17 years. Following that, he worked at Chenango Tool in Sherburne, Dandek Tool Shop in Earlville, and then opened his own small engine repair shop, “Len’s Fix-it.” On Aug. 13, 1966, Leonard married Bette Aley in Sherburne.
Len was a member of the Faith Baptist Tabernacle in Sherburne. He had been a Cub Scout Webelo leader; a member of the Wil-A-Wanna horseback riding club, and the Broken Squares square dancing club.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Bette; a daughter and son-in-law, Lenny Sue and Matt French of Greensboro, N.C.; their children, Lane and Ethan French of Greensboro, N.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sherri Mayne of Peckville, Pa.; their children, Elizabeth Mayne of Bainbridge, Nickolas Cameron and Isaiah Mayne, both of Peckville, Pa.;  his in-laws, David and Linda Aley, Edward and Donna Aley, all of Sherburne; Patricia and Robert Homovich of Greenwood, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews, including his favorite nephew, Rick Aley. He was predeceased by his step-father, Russell Winton.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday from the Faith Baptist Tabernacle, Sherburne.
Friends may call at the church on Monday from 1 to 4 p.m. prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Pine Woods Cemetery, Bouckville, in the spring.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY 13790.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
