Joyce Kalicicki


NORWICH – Joyce Audrey Cox Kalicicki, daughter of Earl Eugene Cox and Eleanor Gould Cox, was born Oct. 11, 1934, died Jan. 6, 2012 from a hard fought two-year battle with Small Cell Lung Cancer.
Joyce began her career at the IBM Corporation in her home state of New York, and upon moving to California, Joyce began working at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, in the Academic Records Office. She took off time to adopt and care for her 17-month-old son Guytano Kalicicki. After returning to Cal Poly, Joyce transferred to the Education Department where she became a Credential Analyst; assisting students to earn teaching, counseling and leadership credentials. As a result of her dedication and exceptional service to students and the campus, Joyce was awarded the Cal Poly “Outstanding Staff Award” for the 1994-1995 academic year. Joyce worked at “Cal Poly” for 36 years (1960 to 1996).
After retiring, Joyce volunteered at her church several times a week, doing anything and everything she could. She had been an Usher, a Sunday School Teacher, as well as the Women’s Bible Study and Prayer Chain Coordinator. Several times, Joyce had been elected to be Treasurer, Secretary, and Deacon. Joyce also volunteered as a greeter/helper at French Hospital helping visitors and patients find their way, up until days before beginning her chemotherapy treatments in September.
Joyce is survived by her son, Guytano Kalicicki, her sisters, Lillian Thompson, Payson, AZ, Marilyn (Raymond) Barba, Florence, OR, Loretta (Bob) Downey, Norwich, Bonnie Galloway, Binghamton, Debra (Gord) Sutton, East Freetown, her brother, Robert (Pam) Cox, Norwich, and her sister-in-law Rose Cox of Modesto, CA, as well as several nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
Joyce was predeceased by her father, Earl Eugene Cox, her step-mother, Margaret Cox Rosato, her step-father, Joe Rosato, her mother-in-law Pauline Kalicicki, her father-in-law Robert Kalicicki Sr., her daughter, Patricia Ann Kalicicki, her ex-husband Robert Kalicicki Jr., her sister, Ruth Cox Root and her brother, Gerald Cox.
Funeral services are being held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Family Christian Center, 525 Cerro Romaldo, San Luis Obispo, CA 93405, 805-544-2585.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations of any size be given to Hospice Partners of the Central Coast, 277 South Street Suite R, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401, 805-782-8608.
