Sophie Mullin

NORWICH – Sophie K. Mullin, 96, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012 at Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center with her family by her side.
Sophie was born on Sept. 20, 1915, daughter of the late Michael and Jawdikia (Hutnick) Lavick in Babylon. On Sept. 20, 1951, she was married to William R. Mullin in Babylon. He predeceased her on Oct. 10, 1998 after 47 years of marriage.
Sophie was a woman who wasn’t to be forgotten easily: she truly left her mark wherever she went. She had a wonderful sense of humor and would tell stories to anyone who would listen. She enjoyed bird watching and working in her flower beds. Sophie was particularly known for her knitting skills, especially “Aunt Sophie’s slippers”. At the nursing home, Sophie was involved in all the activities they had to offer, and she especially loved Bingo. She lived a full life but will still be dearly missed by those that loved her.
Sophie is survived by: a son and daughter-in-law, John M. and Deb Mullin of Oxford; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon A. and Joe Peck of Norwich; six grandchildren: Mary Jane Oppenheimer, William Mullin, John Mullin Jr., Janice Smith, Nicole Agel and John R. Vickers; six great-grandchildren: Joshua Agel, Matthew Agel, Gillian Mullin, Rylie Mullin, Julien Smith and Reagan Mullin; special nieces Kay Brooks and Mary Ann Romano; as well as several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, William, Sophie was predeceased by three sisters and a brother.
Friends are invited to call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Burial will take place in Maplewood Cemetery, Mt. Upton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sophie’s name to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.landersfh.com.
Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney.
