SHERBURNE – Daniel J. Kirk Sr., 91, of Route 12, passed away Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012 at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich.
He was born Nov. 18, 1920 in West Leyden, a son of George and Dora Kraeger Kirk. He received his education and graduated from the Rome State School for the Deaf. On Nov. 16, 1955, Daniel married Edna Mae Hicks in North Norwich. He was employed at Tracy Baking Co. in Norwich for 11 years until his retirement in 1985. Dan was a sports fan who followed the New York Yankees, all the New York football teams, and the SU football team. He also enjoyed fishing and doing word puzzles. He was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving is his wife, Edna; a daughter, Lillian Hicks of Sherburne; two sons, and a daughter-in-law, Daniel, Jr. and LuAnn Kirk of Greene and Bernard Kirk of Sherburne; seven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Conway Hicks; a sister, Emma Kirk, a daughter-in-law, Michelle Will; a sister-in-law, Ruth Ryan, and a brother-in-law, Herbert Hicks.Funeral services will be private from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
