Carlton Odell


MT. UPTON – Carlton Phillips Odell, 84, of Mt. Upton, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife and loving family on Jan. 5, 2012.
Carlton was born June 28, 1927 on the family farm in the Town of Guilford. He was the son of Phillips M. Odell and Ernestine (Greene) Odell. Carlton worked the farm with his father and brother as he grew up. When he married, Carlton and his brother were in farming together for 30 years until he hurt his back and had to give it up. He always helped the neighbors when they needed help. He was a loving husband and a wonderful father to his four daughters. He loved his grandchildren very much. After farming he worked as a security guard at Borden's in Bainbridge. He then worked for Mt. Upton School as a custodian for the Elementary School. He was a Director and Secretary of Rockdale Milk Cooperative. He was a charter member of the Unadilla Valley Historical Society, Town Councilman for 8 years and Town Assessor for 8 years. He was a member of the Mt. Upton Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Catherine Marie (Westcott) Odell. Also surviving are his four daughters and sons-in-law: Debra M. and Edward Sebris of Newcastle, Ontario, Canada; Donna M. and Michael Winchester of Mt. Upton; Brenda A. and Christopher Marks of Guilford; and Wendy J. Killmeier of Norwich. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Arleen and David Russ of Baldwinsville; brother-in-law LeRoy Westcott and his wife Delores and sister-in-law Caroline Brennan. Also ten grandchildren: Eric Welch of Honolulu, Hawaii; Brian & Katie McFadden-Welch of Hicksville; Callie and Megan Winchester of Mt. Upton; Matthew Marks of South Royalton, Vermont; Mary, Scott and Laura Marks of Guilford, and Alexander Killmeier of Morris, and Katie Killmeier of Binghamton. Also surviving are former sons-in-law, William Welch of Norwich and Mark Killmeier of Morris. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Carlton was predeceased by his brother, Charles J. Odell.
Friends called Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral Services followed at 3 p.m. with Deacon Timothy McNerney officiating.
