Mary Gunther


SMYRNA – Mary E. Gunther, 48, of State Highway 80, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011 at her home.
She was born March 18, 1963 on Long Island, a daughter of John and Carol Chichester Mahoney and was a graduate of local schools. On April 8, 1984, Mary was married to Carl Gunther in Seldon. Mary was a home health aide and certified nursing assistant who worked at several nursing homes and Quality Care on Long Island. She was a loving wife, mother and “Namma” as her grandchildren called her. She enjoyed baking cakes, making candy and riding on her husband’s motorcycle. She was also an animal lover.
Surviving are her husband, Carl; her father, John Mahoney of Tampa, Fla.; her children, Michelle Simms and her fiancé Jim Parker of Utica; Megan and Mike Absolom of Holland Patent; Melissa Gunther and her fiancé Peter Warren of Sherburne; and Carl Gunther of Smyrna; her beloved grandchildren, Ayden and Braydon of Sherburne and Liam of Holland Patent. She is also survived by many sisters. She was predeceased by her mother, two sisters and two brothers-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society; or to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815.
