Rebecca Hakes


ITHACA – Rebecca Louise Hakes, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, in Ithaca.
She was born in Pitcher, March 12, 1943, daughter of Robert Chandler Hakes and Emma Crumb Hakes. Becky graduated from South Otselic Central School in 1961. She graduated from Plattsburgh College with a BS in Education in 1965 and her Masters in 1966. She taught Handicap Elementary Education in Plattsburgh area for two years. Becky was self-employed in Home Health Care throughout the Syracuse and Cortland area for over 20 years. She helped many families in their homes with special care for their loved ones. Becky also cooked many delicious meals for the Port Watson Street Retirement Home. Sticky buns were a specialty.
Becky was a member of the Christian Assembly of God Church in Cortland where she has many friends who helped her during her illness including Rev. Mark Lata. Some very special friends and super sisters were Betty, Sharon, and Mary Jo. Liebchen, her longhaired Dachshund, was a loving companion.
Rebecca is survived by five brothers: Dewey (Gloria), DeRuyter; Bruce (Lonnie), North Pitcher; Roger (Elaine), Mt. Morris; John (Ruth), Colona, Ill.; and Charles (Marcia), Bowie, Texas. There are also 15 nieces and nephews and 29 great nieces and nephews.
The Memorial Service conducted by the Rev. Mark Lata will be at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Christian Assembly of God Church, 175 Port Watson Street, Cortland. Visitation will begin at noon before the service. Memorial gifts in Rebecca’s memory may be given to the Christian Assembly of God Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Riccardi Funeral Home, Cortland.
